Head Start Classroom Aide Watertown, South Dakota Duties and Responsibilities Discuss assigned teaching area with classroom teacher to support instructional efforts. Assure the care, safety, and well-being of all children in the group. Promote sound physical, social and emotional growth and development through recognizing individual differences, diversity, and cultural backgrounds. Maintain a safe, clean, and pleasant environment. Assist all children, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts with the teacher. Encourage parents to become involved in child's classroom. Encourage and promote the families' achievement of self-sufficiency. Clean up classroom, including all learning areas and toys and equipment. Clean bathroom as needed. Submit weekly time sheets to the immediate supervisor. Report daily child observations to the Teacher. Assist the Cook as deemed necessary. Maintain client confidentiality at all times. Participate in the Career Development Committee. Attend meetings, training, and seminars as deemed appropriate and necessary by the Agency. Perform duties in a manner consistent with safe practices and policies. Perform other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary. Minimum Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Education and Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED). One (1) year experience and/or training working with infants and toddlers or preschoolers preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Other Work Related Abilities Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to be punctual and organized. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Certificates, Licenses, Examinations Other such examination as deemed appropriate and necessary by ICAP. Ability to be bonded. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move 10 to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
