Do you have an interest in facilitating safe and enjoyable recreational programming for children at a summer day camp? "There's more to explore" in the Recreation Division as a Day Camp Counselor! We are one park district, one community. The Peoria Park District hosts various day camps at multiple locations throughout the community each summer. Counselors are the primary caregivers for each camper. The Counselor is responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities and guiding campers in their personal growth and on a daily basis while at camp. The 2023 Day Camps are as follows: RiverPlex Summer Day Camp, Proctor Recreation Center Summer Day Camp, Ancient Oaks Day Camp at Sommer Farm, and Lakeview Recreation Center Summer Day Camp. Further information can be found under the Location Descriptions heading (attached). RESPONSIBILITIES Follow and uphold all safety, security, and COVID rules and procedures. Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers, their activities, and their daily needs. Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, and respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth. Monitor and assist in the daily care of each camper within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs. Be alert to campers and staff needs and assist them as needed; discuss problems with camp supervisors and/or camp director when appropriate. Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure proper care and utilization; report needs promptly to camp director. Lead or assist with the teaching of activities. Actively participate in all program areas as assigned. Provide supervision for campers while being transported to and from, and while during field trips off of camp property. Monitor the safety of campers and staff at all times, in all locations. Provide parents and supervisors appropriate written and/or verbal feedback and information as needed for campers to have a successful camp experience. Positively represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members. Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; supporting all aspects of the Park District's safety program. Perform all other duties as required.
