Description:
The laboratory of Dr. Sora Shin at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC (https://fbri.vtc.vt.edu/people-directory/primary-faculty/shin.html) is seeking a Research Assistant. The successful candidate will be expected to have proficiency in animal (mouse) handling as well as molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA technology, and confocal microscopy. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated basic skills for stereotaxic surgery in mice. The Shin lab studies stress neurobiology at the brain circuit level. Our lab interrogates mechanistic questions using a combination of cutting-edge technology, such as viral tracing tools, optogenetics, chemogenetics and in vivo calcium imaging, molecular/cellular biology, and mouse behavioral paradigms.The Research Assistant is expected, with guidance and support from her or his supervisor, to contribute to the process of a project within his or her scientific discipline, as well as developing methods for on-going project in the Shin lab. Please refer the most recent publication in the Shin lab (Nature Communications, 2023; Nature Neuroscience, 2022).Preferred qualifications:· MA/MS in biology, neuroscience, or related field, and/or the equivalent level of training and lab experience.· Demonstrated organizational skills or experience with data management.· Desire to succeed in a fast-paced research environment with multiple duties.· The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.· Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.· Experience in one or more of the following research areas: neuroscience, biology.· Experience with data analysis software (Python, Matlab, etc.)If you are interested, please send the followings to Dr. Shin in one PDF by email.
