Position Title: Deputy Director of Claims Division: Unclaimed Property Classification: Exempt Location: Springfield Salary: $85,000– $100,000 Position Summary: The Deputy Director of Claims is responsible for overseeing the planning, organization, and direction of the work of the Unclaimed Property Division's claims review section. The individual in this position is also responsible for managing the development and implementation of policies and procedures required to ensure the effectiveness of the claims section and maintain its compliance with applicable laws. Attendance is an essential function of this position. Duties and Responsibilities: Interviews and trains employees, plans, assigns, and directs work, evaluates performance, and provides positive feedback and constructive criticism to employees. Coordinates and oversees daily operations of the claims section, including attendance. Oversees monitoring, processing, and reporting of claims and communicates with senior management on strategies to address trends and topics. Supervises advanced staff members in the claims section, responds to claims-related questions, and is ultimately responsible for resolving claims issues. Evaluates the claims processing procedure and policy and makes recommendations to improve processes and increase efficiency. Oversees updates to forms, letters, instructions, and forward-facing website information. Reviews and approves claims on unclaimed property for the State of Illinois. Handles customer service and public relations issues that cannot be solved through the appropriate chain of command within the Unclaimed Property Division. Makes recommendations regarding unclaimed property policies and legislative initiatives related to claims matters. Manages personnel-related matters. Works with the Information Technology Division on troubleshooting and implementation of various claims-related technologies. Serves as the point of contact for staff on public/constituent inquiries regarding unclaimed property. Conducts periodic meetings attended by staff in the claims review unit. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably related to the duties enumerated above. Specific Skills: Must have excellent oral and written communications skills and computer skills. Must be able to supervise a large staff and function in a fast-paced environment. Must have knowledge and familiarity with the Illinois Revised Uniform Unclaimed Property Act. Must maintain knowledge and application of appropriate union contract specifications. Must maintain satisfactory working relationships and communicate effectively with all levels of staff and the general public. Must be a self-motivator while actively participating in a team environment. Must be capable of interpreting data and arriving at appropriate conclusions. Must be proficient at prioritizing tasks, working independently, and collaborating across functional areas. Must exhibit good judgment and leverage experience to successfully meet goals. Education and Work Experience: Bachelor's d egree in business, accounting, public administration, or any other related field; seven (7) or more years of experience in unclaimed property, government administration, or related field, and five (5) or more years of supervisory experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to carry out the duties of the position.
